Grower of almonds

NCC is Georgia's (the country) first certified organic almond orchard. Georgia has the top 5% most fertile soil in the world. When we saw the land, with its undulating topography, grazing sheep and the river Iori running through it, we knew we wanted to do something different here.
Nuts Cultivation Company, is a grower of tree nuts in Georgia. The decision to grow almonds in Georgia was driven by the need for improving the sustainability footprint of almonds. Unlike traditional almond growing regions, Georgia benefits from a huge supply of water from the Caucasus mountains which enrich our land. In addition, planting trees in the eastern region of Georgia is also helping reduce desertification of the region.
We did not plan to grow organically. In fact organic agriculture is quite cumbersome which is why is not practiced very widely. However, when it is done well, it can help lower costs and time spent. We haven't found the perfect receipe yet but we are slowly working towards it.
Our orchards are located far away. 25 km from the nearest village with no asphalt road. The reason for it - Water.
The river Iori flows through our land providing sustainable supply of clean water for our trees.
However we don't take this water for granted. It is a precious resource, and we minimise its use through state of the art drip irrigation system. More importantly, we carpet the land in cover crops which retain any water from rains and reduce the temperature of soil.
Currently we have planted 200ha of almonds of the varieties Lauranne (Avijor), Ferragnes and Ferraduel producing over 100 tonnes of almond kernels.
